Photofacial

PhotofacialWHAT IS A PHOTOFACIAL?

Although there are many advantages to living in a warm, sun-drenched climate such as California, the cumulative effects of persistent sun exposure is one of the primary causes of severe skin damage, which can manifest in the form of aesthetically undesirable pigmentation spots (solar lentigenes) on our face, arms, hands, shoulders, and chest. An IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photofacial is a non-invasive, light-based skin rejuvenation treatment that helps to enhance the tone, appearance, color, and texture of the skin with minimal discomfort and no post-treatment downtime.

It is true that some types of pigmented lesions are present at birth; however, pigment changes and irregularities often represent one of the first signs of aging. Photofacial treatments are uniquely designed to address pigmentation abnormalities, and can be employed to effectively address and resolve common skin-related concerns linked to the visible signs of aging, such as:

  • Aging skin (age spots)
  • Sun-damaged and photo-aged skin (sun spots)
  • Skin discolorations stemming from lifestyle choices and/or hormonal factors (i.e. smoking, alcohol use, or hormonal fluctuations)
  • Melasma and other pigmentation irregularities (hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation)
  • Redness/Rosacea
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores and acne
  • Acne scars
  • Broken capillaries (benign vascular lesions) and dilated blood vessels (telangiectasia)

While photofacials are inherently non-invasive, is still important to select a skillful, experienced medical practitioner to perform this procedure. At Dr. Q™ Medical Spa, located in Rancho Mirage, CA, Board Certified plastic surgeon Dr. Suzanne Quardt (Dr. Q™) offers IPL photofacial treatments with Palomar’s state-of-the-art laser technology as a gentler alternative to harsher ablative laser treatments, which pull the pores open as the skin heals, potentially harming the delicate facial skin cells. Contrarily, intense pulsed light-based photofacial treatments actually minimize the appearance of pores, and penetrate deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production, thereby improving the skin’s texture, health, and appearance for long-term skin Re-Q-Venation!

YOUR CUSTOMIZED PHOTOFACIAL EXPERIENCE

Your photofacial will be performed in the comfort of our office in as little as 15-30 minutes, and because there are no wounds to heal, you can immediately resume your daily activities after treatment. Any temporary post-treatment redness can easily be concealed with makeup, and should subside within one hour. Most patients achieve optimal results with 3-6 treatments spaced approximately three weeks apart. Although you will notice visible improvements shortly after your initial treatment, the texture and condition of your skin will continue to improve over the course of the next few weeks, and your results will be amplified after each additional IPL photofacial session.
