Facial Treatments

FacialsA facial is one of the most popular and effective ways to look after facial skin, as long as the treatment is received from an experienced aesthetician at a leading medical spa. Facial treatments are designed to cleanse, nourish, and exfoliate the skin.

The goal is to promote clear complexion, well-hydrated and healthy looking skin, and make the person appear rejuvenated and youthful. In ideal situations, facials produce excellent outcomes when these are a part of a comprehensive skin care program.

Basic Procedure

The facial process begins with a consultation where the aesthetician will engage with the patient about their skin concerns, nutrition, general health status, and their specific aesthetic goals and desires.

Cleansing and Skin Analysis

Once it is determined that the patient is a marvelous candidate for a particular facial procedure, the aesthetician will perform a thorough cleansing process to remove the superficial dust, germs, and pollutants from the face. This will be followed by a detailed skin analysis process, which will allow the aesthetician to know the basic skin type of the patient and the existing skin condition.

Depending on whether the skin is dry, oily, sensitive or normal, and whether any presence of sun damage, acne, blackheads, dehydration or aging signs is found, a customized facial treatment plan will be devised and discussed with the patient.

Steaming and Exfoliation

A majority of facial treatments involve the application of thin vapors of warm steam. Steam allows the skin to relax, and causes softening of the blackheads or whiteheads that may need to be removed. Steam may be avoided for patients with sensitive skin.

This stage is followed by an exfoliation process that is performed with the help of a chemical or mechanical exfoliant, depending on the type of facial chosen. Chemical exfoliation involves the use of mild acids and enzymes to loosen up the bonding of skin cells.

Extractions

Depending on the patient’s need, this stage may or may not be a part of the facial process. It involves removal of blackheads or whiteheads to make the skin appear clearer. An extraction process should only be performed by an expert to avoid the risk of broken capillaries and discoloration.

Facial Massage and Mask

A facial massage will typically form an important part of the facial procedure. The expert will apply classic strokes such as effleurage to help the patient to relax and cause the stimulation of the skin and facial muscles at the same time. Facial mask is also usually included as a part of the procedure. An appropriate facial mask will be chosen to match with the patient’s skin type and condition, which could be oily, dry, mixed, sensitive, or mature.

Periodic Treatments

How often a facial treatment should be treated will vary from one individual to another. The goal should be to maintain a consistent facial look, and the frequency of facials can be discussed with the med spa expert. In many cases, patients select monthly facial treatments, or at least four times a year.
